Ray Timms - Drum Lessons

Ray Timms has been teaching at the John Reynolds School of Music since 1979. He also taught at St Peters College from 1985 to 2010. In the 1980s, Ray was resident drummer on Channel 7’s Easter Appeals and Miss Industry Quests. Ray is currently playing with Jus-Fa-Fun, along with Greg Hart, our vocal teacher. The band also performs Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Johnny O’Keefe and Neil Diamond tribute shows. He has also played with Adelaide act, Lost in Vegas, performing three Christmas Seasons at the Arkaba Hotel, one season at St Pauls, and countless corporate functions.
Ray studied at The Adelaide College of Music, and with John Stephens of the John Reynolds School of Music. He then studied with Jim Bailey, Laurie Kennedy and the late Dick Smith, all of Adelaide University. He also participated in Masterclasses with Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati, Ed Soph and Adam Nussbaum, and organised the first international Drum Clinic held in Adelaide in 1977 featuring Roy Burns. He has a busy teaching schedule and teaches most drumming styles – Rock, Funk, Latin and Jazz Independence to all levels of students.


Peter Gore – Drum Lessons

Peter offers expert drum tuition in all styles including, rock, heavy metal, funk/fusion, blues, jazz, reggae and latin. He has been playing and performing for over 20 years and has taught professionally since 1995. His teaching methods make learning the drums a fun and enjoyable experience for both beginners and advanced level students. He is currently teaching Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 9pm, as well as Saturday mornings/afternoons. All ages are welcome.


Rob Boundy – Drum Lessons

Rob Boundy has been in the Australian music business for over 25 years, starting as a student with the Adelaide College of Music in 1968. From 1986 to 1991, Rob studied with Frank Corniola, Mike Fergusson and Jeff Barnes and attended masterclasses with Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati and Darren Farrugia. He has performed and toured nationally with The Modes, The Astros, Virgin Soldiers,Tour of Duty and The Grouse, recording two albums which charted nationally. As well as being a pipe band drummer – winner of Grade 3 South Australian Pipe Band Championships 1995 and Grade 2 City Adelaide Pipe Band 2006/07.
Rob is in his eighth year of teaching drum kit, leaning stylistically towards contemporary rock fromthe 60s to today.
Rob teaches private students at Cabra Dominican College, Loretto College and at John Reynolds School of Music. He also instructs over 40 students in American style Drum Corps. Rob believes that good students come from inspired learning and creative structure based on sound principles.


Matthew McNamee – Drum Lessons

Matthew has been a professional musician for over 20 years and has been lucky enough to tour the country with various acts, including some of Australia’s favourite entertainers. He has also had the privilege of studying with greats such as Ron Sandilands and Frank Cleves. Matthew also has a busy teaching schedule, and tutors students of all levels.

Stewart Eckhold-Simpson - Drum Lessons

Stewart has been teaching since 2006, providing fun and friendly lessons for beginners to intermediate students. He specialises in rock and song-based drumming, and has over 20 years of national and international live experience. Stewart has played with Adelaide alternative rock band, ‘Dogboat’ (1996-2001), supporting INXS, Spiderbait and The Screaming Jets.


Greg Hart – Guitar + Vocal Lessons

Greg has been singing and playing in bands since he was a child, and remembers coming to this store when he was 11 to learn saxophone! Greg is a self-taught singer/guitar player and proud of it, and believes this has made him a better teacher as he knows all the pitfalls. He started teaching in 1979 at home then with the WEA, later with the John Reynolds School of Music. He also currently teaches singing at Emanuel College, Walford School for Girls and St Peters College. Greg is a working musician playing with local bands ‘Jus-Fa-Fun’, ‘The Beavers’ and ‘The Corner Pocket Big Band’. Greg also appears regularly in musical theatre productions and produces his own shows. He has worked on TV
and radio, session work and commercials.

Dean Higgs – Guitar Lessons

Dean has been with John Reynolds School of Music since 1997. He has also spent 13 years as head teacher at Eastside Music Bondi alongside Tommy and Phil Emmanuel. He has a long performance history in a variety of styles and formats including playing solo fingerstyle, with a commercial duo and a 9-piece blues/soul outfit. He has also taught at Norwood Morialta High School since 2005. Dean has an excellent track record when it comes to preparing and helping students achieve their goals. Many past and present students can be seen playing regularly in a variety of bands. Some have also gone on to national and international success.
Dean’s particular strengths are rock, blues and fingerstyle.


Chris Tennent – Guitar Lessons

Chris offers advanced level guitar tuition, and is an accomplished player and songwriter. Chris was the long-time guitarist for ‘The Superjesus.’


Jamie Whyte – Guitar Lessons

Jamie began playing guitar in 1985, initially studying classical guitar and blues. He quickly made the transition to heavy metal and hard rock, which are his main styles today.He has released several albums with death metal bands Intended Victim and Beyond Mortal Dreams, and in 2011 released his first solo album. He has been teaching since 1996, specialising in blues, rock and heavy metal.


Ross Duncan – Bass Lessons

Ross began playing bass at age 14 and started writing and learning music theory shortly after that. He plays 4, 5, 6, & 8 string
bass, and has been featured on two albums with death metal band, ‘Intended Victim’, and on one album and an EP with ‘Beyond
Mortal Dreams.’ He has supported shows for ‘Nile’, ‘Decapitated’ and ‘Behemoth’. Although Ross’s background is largely metal,
he was initially a jazz bassist and has transcribed many classical pieces to the bass.


Alicia Hage – Piano Lessons

Alicia is currently in the last stages of a Diploma in Music and already holds a Certificate IV In Music, as well as having undertaken Year 12 Solo, Ensemble & Musicianship. Additionally, she has undergone teacher licensing for the International School of Music, and teaches piano and voice privately all over Adelaide. Alicia’s exposure to musical styles is quite broad and she is willing to develop a program specific to the individual. She is interested in all aspects of music and is passionate about the success of her students! After all, music is her life!
